Profile
UniQ Otago is an OUSA affiliated queer* student group open to all queer* and questioning tertiary students in Otago.
UniQ Otago is based around an elected Executive Committee, members and those who attend our events! UniQ provides safe, queer friendly spaces and regular social events in Dunedin, and work closely with OUSA Queer Support to provide support and community for queer students.
Membership costs $5 annually, and lasts until 31 December of the same year, with the fee allowing the club to hold various events throughout the year. Joining UniQ Otago as a paying member also allows non-executive members of UniQ to attend and vote in General Meetings, access minutes from all committee meetings, and become committee members themselves.
Non-members are encouraged to attend our events, and our Facebook group and mailing list are open to all queer* students, their friends, their families and allies.
* “Queer” is a term used to describe the many variations of sexual and romantic attraction, and sex/gender identity, including intersex, transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, asexual, aromantic, fa’afafine, takatapui, lesbian, bisexual and gay. Although it may not be the preferred term for everyone, it is used to challenge binary representations of sexuality, sex, and gender.
