Profile
Mt Bealey 1,839m is a climb of 1,100m from the south end of Arthurs Pass village. A good track climbs through the beech forest to emerge on the snowgrass and scree ridge which climbs to the Low Peak and then dips down before climbing to the High Peak. Great views of the Bealey, Crow and Waimak valleys and all the peaks around. We will probably return back down the same track. 3.5 km each way – this tramp is considered hard.
We will meet at the corner of Peacock and Durham streets, no later than 07:55 – in time for a prompt 08:00 departure. We intend to be back to Christchurch no later than 18:00, but please be flexible as conditions can cause delays. For those wishing to share a ride, the cost is $25 per person ($10 for students and unwaged).
Our leader for the day is Aaron.
A gold coin koha for administrative costs is also greatly appreciated.
If you have any cold or flu-like symptoms, please do not attend.
It is imperative that you contact the leader if you have not tramped with us before, or to discuss whether your capability is suited for a particular tramp – please do not participate in tramps beyond your ability as that can create risk for yourself and the group.
Bring lunch, plenty of water, appropriate clothing (woollen or polypropylene), gloves, hats, and sunscreen. Strong footwear and a waterproof jacket are essential, also bring any personal medical items. It is a condition of tramping with us that you are properly equipped, because if you are inadequately prepared you put everyone, not just yourself, at risk.
