Profile
As part of our 2024 festival, we are tracing our whakapapa ki tua and looking towards the Pacific Sisters in their demonstration of utopian thinking and collective action.
The influence of the Pacific Sisters has been monumental to Arts & Culture here in Tāmaki Makaurau and across the motu. Their prolific body of work has become a key reference for emerging practitioners. From Street Culture to Institution their growth and development has gone on to inspire generations and now connects us together as mokopuna and tauira, and their influence has become implicit within the work of the next generation.
To celebrate their impact on Aotearoa’s Arts and Rainbow Communities, this year our Whare Toi has moved to Tautai, Karangahape Road. From the 2nd to the 23rd of February we will be displaying archival work from the Pacific Sisters and curated responses from emerging takatāpui artists. Ka pū te ruha, ka hao te rangatahi!
